THE police chief of Tayabas City in Quezon and three other cops were relieved from their post to pave the way for investigation on the alleged shootout that resulted in the killing of a town mayor’s son.
Quezon Police Provincial Office Director Osmundo de Guzman said relieved were Tayabas Police Chief Mark Joseph Laygo, Police Officer (PO) 3 Christopher John Siman, PO1 Perry Malabaguio, and PO1 William Ricamonte.
The relief came after elements of the Tayabas police killed in an alleged shootout on March 14 Cristian Gayeta, the 21-year-old son of Sariaya Mayor Marcelo Gayeta.
The shootout reportedly happened after policemen responded to a report from a gasoline boy, who said that two unidentified persons onboard a motorcycle shot him twice for no reason. The gasoline boy was unharmed.
Gayeta’s companion was also killed in the firefight.
The Tayabas City Police Station has asked the Quezon Provincial Crime Laboratory Office to conduct an autopsy and paraffin examination on both hands of the alleged suspects. They also requested for identification on the firearms recovered from the crime scene.
De Guzman assured that they will conduct a thorough investigation and that the Quezon Police Provincial Office will be fair in handling the case. (SunStar Philippines)
