Danao dumps San Fran for third straight win

DANAO City stepped on the gas in the second quarter to beat San Francisco, 71-49, at the Poro Municipal Gym on Sunday, March 17 in the elimination round of the 2019 Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament.

Danao City’s offense started clicking in the second quarter and the team used a 22-11 blitz to turn a four-point deficit in the opening quarter to a seven-point lead, 35-28, at the half.

Danao City showed its full arsenal in the third quarter as it got on a tear and built a commanding 20-point lead, 58-38, going to the final quarter.

Justin Mondares and Ian Benedict Olivar combined for 25 points to lead the balancing scoring for Danao City, which had 12 players contributing offensively.

Danao City improved to a 3-0 (win-loss) record to gain the solo lead in the 5th District standings as district rival San Francisco dropped to a 2-1 card.

Over at the Sibonga Municipal Gym, San Fernando beat Carcar City, 60-57, Talisay City continued to be impressive with a convincing 64-51 win over Minglanilla, while the City of Naga beat Sibonga, 75-71.

Elsewhere, Medellin routed Santa Fe, 83-63, Madridejos escaped Bogo City, 100-97, Tabogon demolished San Remigio, 95-61, at the San Remigio Municipal Gym.

Meanwhile, Poro and Cordova leaned on their home court edge to pull off a close win over their respective opponents. Poro beat Tudela by four points, 61-57, and Cordova stunned powerhouse Mandaue City, 89-88. (RSC)
