Hidalgo: Alarming: Most Filipino women aging prematurely

I GOT so interested in this topic because it reminded me of the slogan- Forwarned is Forearmed.

This is the opinion of researchers. It is about being weaker and tiring easily due to bad eating, sleeping and lifestyle habits. Observe yourself. Do you have wrinkles on your skin? This will not kill you. See the signs on your face. Yellowish skin could indicate problems with the liver. Grayish skin could mean problem with the kidney. Bluish lips may indicate lack of oxygen in the lungs. Wrinkling and sagging skin may not indicate illness but may mean that the tissues of the skin are breaking down.

Researches are being made, according to Fely Velandria, a registered nutritionist dietician and former science research specialist of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PNRD). This means that more than half of the working force in our country is aging prematurely. This means that their bodies are aging faster than their chronological age. For many Filipinos, a good 60 percent, according to a recent study - such breakdown is not just looking older; it means getting tired easily, getting weaker compared to other people your age who are not aging prematurely.

Here are revealing facts: Half of Filipinos aged 19-60 are not getting enough protein, while more than 90 percent do not get enough calcium which can lead to bone, muscle and joint deterioration and weakness while environmental factors may contribute to aging. The lifestyle also plays a role here. This includes your food choices, your sleeping habits and exercise routine or their lack thereof.

A research on a study of metabolic age in a particular working force in a company in Metro Manila showed that 60 percent were determined to have a lower metabolic age more than their chronological age. About 35 percent between 18 to 50 years old had low bone mass. Metabolic age is the comparison between a person's basal metabolic rate (BMR) for a certain age group. Meticulous orcs sing apparatuses consider visceral fat around the waist, weight, muscle mass and body fat percentages.

These data will give you an idea of your physical health. If your metabolic rate is lower than your actual age, it means your body is in good health. If the metabolic age is higher than your actual age it may mean health problems and you should change your eating and exercise habits. Unfortunately, the hazards one meets daily like home chores, office work, heavy traffic, accidents will compromise the ease of your daily life leading to premature aging. On food and drink intakes there are concerns, too. We are not habitual milk drinkers. Adults give this up in favor of coffee, tea, soft drinks, and liquors.

A concerned company, for example, introduced the coffee flavored milk in Anlene which strengthens bones, joints and muscles, a best choice for healthy aging. We thank the company for this drink.
