Light to moderate rains in Cebu today

CEBU and other areas in the Visayas are expected to experience rain on Tuesday, March 19, due to the effects of Tropical Depression Chedeng.

Light to moderate rains are expected in the Visayas on Tuesday especially since TD Chedeng will make landfall in Davao Oriental early in the morning.

Jomer Eclarino, weather specialist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Mactan Station, said, though, that once Chedeng makes landfall, it will become a low pressure area (LPA) by Wednesday before leaving the Philippines later this week.

Since Sunday, March 17, rains have been experienced in some parts of Cebu as Chedeng entered the Philippine area of responsibility.

On Sunday, March 17, Pagasa monitored around 4.1 millimeters of rain. The average monthly rainfall for March is 63.4 millimeters.

Eclarino said the rain that occurred on Sunday was localized, meaning not all areas in Cebu felt the downpour due to the weak El Niño.

Since late February, the country has been experiencing the effects of the weak El Niño, which is expected to last until May. (from HBL of Superbalita Cebu, JKV)
