MAYORAL candidate Jose Gabriel “Pompee” La Viña has warned the public against any individual or group that brings his name to solicit money for a “Pompee La Viña card” and shirt in exchange of housing benefits or any “false” promises.
The standard bearer of the opposition coalition of Padayon Pilipino-Centrist Democratic Party (CDP) said he received the report that a group has been making rounds to entice residents to buy a shirt worth P250 and card amounting to P50, to supposedly avail benefits from La Vina.
But La Viña said he will never ask his supporters to pay, even as he urged those would-be victims to report them to authorities for swindling. He also said he has not authorized any individual or group, even his workers, to solicit money for whatever reason.
“Dili kana tinuod, binuang na (that’s not true, that’s foolishness), Naa tay daghan volunteers sila ang gapa-print sa ilang own t-shirt (we have many volunteers and they print their own t-shirts). Wala nato na sila gipabayad ila nang own efforts (we don't ask them to pay for their own efforts,” La Viña said.
“We are not involved in anything. If you are going to support Bag-ong Cagayan wala na siya’y bayad ug dili pud magpabayad (there’s no fee and we don’t ask for payment). Ayaw mog tuo ana nga dunay promises nga housing kung naa kay card (don't believe on those promises that there's housing if you have a card),” he added.
La Viña raised the possibility that those who supposedly campaign for his candidacy but at the same time soliciting money from the public, may be the handiwork of his political detractors to discredit his name.
But, he said he is overwhelmed by those who truthfully support his advocacy and dream of a “New Cagayan de Oro.”
