Quezon police chief sacked from post

THE director of Quezon Provincial Police Office was ordered relieved over command responsibility in relation to the alleged shootout that resulted in the killing of Sariaya mayor’s son, said Calabarzon Police Director Edward Carranza.

Carranza said Senior Superintendent Osmundo de Guzman was relieved from post “for failure to supervise his men,” including the chief of police of Tayabas Quezon, Superintendent Mark Joseph Laygo.

De Guzman will be replaced by Senior Superintendent Joseph Arguelles who is assigned at the regional investigation and detective management division of the Calabarzon Provincial Police Office.

On Monday, March 18, De Guzman ordered the relief of Laygo and his men, Police Officer (PO) 3 Christopher John Siman, PO1 Perry Malabaguio and PO1 William Ricamonte to ensure impartial investigation on the incident.

Siman, Malabaguio and Ricamonte were the three police officers involved in the shootout that resulted in the killing of Cristian Gayeta, the 21-year-old son of Sariaya Mayor Marcelo Gayeta.

The shootout happened after policemen responded to a report from a gasoline boy that two unidentified persons onboard a motorcycle shot him twice for no reason. The gasoline boy was unharmed.

The younger Gayeta’s companion was also killed in the firefight. (SunStar Philippines)
