Wolves beat Stallions

THE Wolves overcame a strong third quarter to nip the Stallions, 93-90, in the Elite Basketball Club Cebu City Season 14 on Sunday, March 17, at the Visayas Glass Gym in Guadalupe.

Merbien Dedace exploded for 31 points, Dexter Cabasan finished with 18, Ervin Lopena added 17 and lefty-gunner Joirene Salcedo handed 15 for the Wolves, which improved to a 2-1 (win-loss) card.

The Wolves controlled the pace in the first half with a 24-21 lead in the opening quarter, and a five-point, 42-37, advantage at halftime before the Stallions retaliated in the second half.

The Stallions found their rhythm in the third quarter as they turned the five-point deficit to a five-point lead going to the final frame. But the Wolves were able to hold off the opposing team to walk away with a three-point win.

Trystan Chu scored 17 points, while Kenneth Arias and Archie Dungog each had 16 points for the Stallions, which dropped to the bottom of the standings with a 0-3 card.

The Lions, meanwhile, downed the Eagles, 70-66, led by Mike Cantonao’s 20 points. Jun Chua chipped in 18, Clint Caritan poured in 14 and Randy Pogoy handed 10 to help the Lions secure their first win after three games.

Mark Ynoc and Justin Mier combined for 24 points, while Jarred Nacasabog had 10 for the losing team.

Meanwhile, the Tigers grabbed their second win in three games with an 80-75 triumph over the Cheetahs.

Nino Obeso put up 24 points while Jojie Bas added 15 for the Tigers, which opened the game with a 27-18 lead in the first quarter and never wavered until the final buzzer.

John Rodrigo had 20, while Kimo Bajamunde and Chito Solis contributed 13 each in a losing effort by the Cheetahs. (RSC)
