NEGROS Occidental Provincial Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon Jr. commended the operatives of the Manapla Philippine National Police (PNP) over the death of a suspected drug lord and three of his companions following a drug bust last March 18.

The operation led to the confiscation of P1.3 million worth of suspected shabu and some firearms.

Killed during the bust at Hacienda Bariw, Barangay Sta. Teresa, Manapla, Negros Occidental was alleged drug lord Alson Aguirre, 31, of Silay City.

Aguirre’s live-in partner, Rodjilyn, and the group’s lookout June Espanola, an administrator of Hacienda Bariw and resident of Cadiz City were also caught.

Senior Supt. Romeo Baleros, director of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, said Aguirre sold a sachet of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) to an undercover cop at about 7:30 a.m. at his hideout in Hacienda Bariw.

After the transaction, Aguirre, however, sensed he was dealing with a policeman, which prompted him to shoot the operative and tried to escape along with his three companions.

Baleros said the police operatives fired back and were able to kill the four suspects.

The said group also reportedly served as a private armed group.

Marañon said the police should continue their vigilance against lawless elements especially now that it's election time.

“We don't tolerate their lawless activities and therefore the PNP should continue its vigilance against this group and those involved in illegal activities,” he added. (CNC)
