CdeO archbishop waits on Vatican order for successor

CAGAYAN de Oro Archbishop Antonio Ledesma revealed that he has reached the age of retirement and is now waiting for his successor.

In an interview on Monday, Ledema said he is now 75, which is the retirement age for bishops.

“Yes I already reached the age of retirement, we're just waiting for my successor. We do not know when. We have to depend on the Vatican for that,” Ledesma said.

Asked if it is possible to extend his term, Ledesma said it “depends on the Holy Spirit.”

Born on March 28, 1943 in Iloilo City, Ledesma was ordained a priest on April 16, 1973 at Jaro Cathedral, Iloilo City.

On June 13, 1996, Pope John Paul II appointed him Coadjutor Bishop of Ipil, Zamboanga del Sur. He was ordained Bishop on August 31, 1996. On June 28, 1997 he succeeded as Bishop of Ipil.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on March 3, 2006 Archbishop of Cagayan de Oro.
