Sungduan: Bibak Hawaii shines

BIBAK Hawaii proudly showcased their enriching cultural heritage during the Honolulu Festival’s 25th anniversary.

Group member Helmer dela Cruz said at least 100 Cordillerans joined in the Grand Parade held at Waikiki along the strip of Kalakaua Avenue which is from Ft De Russy and ends at Kapiolani Park.

They wowed the crowd with their unique cultural presentation highlighting their custom and tradition which they continue to embrace and preserve even if they are now living in a different nation.

Most registered members of the group participated and were excited to be marching along the avenue with the big cheering crowd on both sides of the street.

“It is with great pride and honor that Bibak Hawaii is once again a part of the Grand Parade just like for the last 24 years,” dela Cruz said who was also joined by his wife Trinidad Ramento in the event.

Another Bibak member and one of the elders of the group, Angel Galas, said the highlight of their presentation during the parade was the display of the Igorot cultural heritage.

Bibak Hawaii president Hugo Prill said being part of the Honolulu community, they have been playing an active role in promoting the Igorot culture throughout the world as possible.

“This is one of the occasions where we can showcase our customs and traditions,” Prill added.

With the theme “Looking Back to Create the Future: 25 Years of Aloha”, at least 100 groups from Asia, Oceania, Europe, South America and Hawaii took part in the festival.

Cultural performances and exhibits and a number of special events were featured for the occasion which was held from March 8-10.
