Troops seize BIFF camp in Maguindanao

GOVERNMENT forces have seized a lair of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in the province of Maguindanao.

Major General Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Joint Task Force Central and the Army’s 6th Infantry Division commander, said the troops from the Army’s 57th Infantry Battalion seized the BIFF lair when they swooped down on the “enemy camp” on Tuesday, March 19, in the village of Magaslong in Datu Piang town.

Sobejana said the BIFF camp, which could probably accommodate some 20 people, was empty when the troops arrived. It has deep trenches, foxholes and sniper bunkers.

Sobejana said the troops recovered components of anti-personnel mines, a rifle scope, empty shells, wires and nails, medical supplies, and documents of high intelligence value.

“This is not a victory announcement but a significant progress in the fight against the BIFF and the Daesh-inspired group,” said Sobejana.

He said they will intensify their combat and intelligence operations as “we do not want to give them the opportunity to gather and to create fear in the community.” (SunStar Philippines)
