IN LINE with the celebration of Women’s Month, some 30 members of the Fernandina Women’s Federation underwent “Upcycling Training on Accessories Making” recently at Heroes Hall.

Initiated by the Department of Trade and Industry-Negosyo Center San Fernando, together with the City Investment Promotion Office, the activity was aimed to introduce a new skills to women—the upcycling of scrap and waste materials in order to create new useful items.

Through the coaching of another Fernandina, Erminda Castro, who previously worked for the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the participants were able to create bags made of plastic straws and lampshades made of polyethylene terephthalate or PET bottles. (PR)
