AN ONLINE teaching platform from China reported that out of their more than 18,000 teachers in the Philippines this year, around 10 percent are from the Davao Region.

During the press briefing Thursday, March 21, 51Talk country head Jennifer Que said Filipinos are the most qualified teachers so they are now targeting 100,000 Filipino online English teachers in the next five years.

“51Talk has been established in the Philippines since 2011 and it is the leading online English platform in China. Mostly, our teachers are coming from the Philippines,” Que said.

Que said 51Talk aimed to give extra income opportunities while staying at home only with the need of a strong internet connection and the passion in teaching.

“We bring a new form of livelihood for those who are looking to work outside the traditional corporate environment. Online English Filipino teaching is a potential livelihood outside your regular work,” she said.

Most of the clients of 51Talk are kids aging five to 12 years old and modules will be prepared and given by the company. Clients will be the one to choose or book a teacher for a 25-minute session.

“Student traffic us highest from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on weekends also as early as 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.,” Que said, adding that Filipinos normally have their vacant time during night time, it is an advantage as both countries share the same time-zone.

The company assured that they will continue to provide free trainings regularly since teachers development is part of their investment.

The company said that trainings and other development activities for teachers is their effort also in professionalizing the industry.
