Mendoza: This Band wins Dabawenyos’ hearts

THIS Band has won the hearts of many Dabawenyos as the six-member group performed live here last Sunday, March 17.

SM Lanang Premier made sure that they ended the 82nd Araw ng Dabaw weekend with a bang. Thus, the shopping destination brought in the Pinoy performers who rose to stardom only a few months after they have been formed.

With Andrea Manzano (lead vocals), Euwie Loria (rhythm), Raymart Gubat (lead guitar), Miccael Galvan (bass guitar), John Macaranas (drums), and Melvin Carson (keyboard), the crowd did have fun singing with them their hit songs.

The pop band from Las Piñas City opened the one-hour show at the Northwing Event Grounds with “Tampisaw.” At the middle of the song, Andrea requested two members of the audience to sing with them on stage.

Of course, This Band performed all of their songs, which include “Bitaw Na,” “Ligaya?,” “‘Di Na Babalik,” “Hindi Na Nga,” and the most popular one “Kahit Ayaw Mo Na.”

“Ito’y para sa lahat na nagbago ang puso. Para rin po sa mga natatakot na aminin ang feelings kasi baka hindi tatanggapin,” Andrea said about “Hindi Na Nga.”

Meanwhile, “Kahit Ayaw Mo Na” is about love and its uncertainty, especially if it is the one-sided kind.

“Sino ba dito yung may malalabong relasyon? Sino ba dito ang lapit nang lapit at sya naman ay layo nang layo?,” she quipped before belting out their most-loved single.

They also did a cover of December Avenue’s “Sa Ngalan ng Pag-ibig.”

While this fast-rising OPM band is composed of talented artists, I have two other observations as well which could have contributed a lot to their popularity.

Humility. I have observed how they handle their fans. You can feel the warmth every time they speak and interact with the audience. Andrea was not allowed to go down the stage, she made sure that after the show, she could be with the fans. She even volunteered to hold the fans’ phone who wanted to take selfies with her.

Sweetness. My second son, who is a drummer at their school band, is a certified member of “these fans.” (This Band calls their followers “these fans.”) Thus, when he learned about their show here, he got giddy about meeting them. When we had the chance to have a photo with them, my son requested that his drum sticks be signed by Andrea. To his surprise, other band members did so. We even had a good exchange of jokes with the entire This Band. Yes, they were like that as well when other fans approached them.

After watching you live, I am definitely a proud member now of these fans. (I could be your oldest fan.)

May you remain humble and sweet throughout your career! Keep soaring high!

(Special thanks to SM Lanang Premier for the invite, especially to Jesse B. Madriaga for being such an excellent PR person!)
