NBI arrests drug peddler

THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Northern Mindanao arrested a drug pusher on Wednesday, March 20, who allegedly sold illegal drugs to students in Cagayan de Oro City.

Lawyer Alex Cabornay, NBI-Northern Mindanao head of agents, said an undercover agent bought a pack of dried marijuana leaves from the suspect using P5,000 as mark money.

Cabornay identified the suspect as Stephen Dave Orosco, 18. Recovered from his possession is another pack of marijuana and the marked money.

Orosco is charged for violation of Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

“The significance of that operation is to prevent further proliferation of drugs to the studentry kasi mga parokyano ng arrested suspect are mostly students,” Cabornay said.

According to Cabornay, the suspect was under surveillance for almost a month. Prior to his arrest, NBI intelligence operatives successfully bought him, through a “test-buy”, some marijuana leaves.

Cabornay said the schools and areas where the suspect sells his drugs to the students will remain confidential “so as not to pre-empt and compromise other follow-up operations.”

He also warned that they will come after persons who are into the illegal drugs trade especially those selling it to students.
