EIGHTY residents from different areas along the Guadalupe River were hired to work under the Food-for-Work program being implemented by the Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO).
CCENRO Chief Ma. Nida Cabrera said the beneficiaries for the Food-for-Work program will continue the clearing and gathering of uncollected garbage during the previous cleanup last Saturday, March 16.
“We hired the local residents because they can watch over the area because they live close to the river,” she said.
They will be working for a maximum of four hours a day in exchange for three kilos of rice and six canned goods.
Cabrera said that they chose to implement the program primarily along the Guadalupe River, as it had the most garbage collected during the cleanup.
An estimated 30 to 40 tons of wastes were collected along the Guadalupe River.
Cabrera said they will also use equipment of the Department of Engineering and Public Works and the Department of General Services to collect the piles of garbage that remain uncollected. (RVC)
