10,000 kids to join CCSC free clinic

TEN thousand kids will learn the basics of their chosen sport when the 2019 Summer Grassroots Sports Training Program starts on April 10 in various venues in Cebu City.

The annual free sports clinic organized by the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC), which is supported by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Department of Education, is open to entry level athletes aged 6 to 18.

CCSC chairman Edward Hayco told SunStar Cebu on Friday, March 22 that they’re expecting 10,000 kids from the grassroots level to participate in various sports.

The interested athletes can choose from more than 20 sports: archery, basketball, air rifle, arnis, badminton, beach volleyball, boxing, chess, muay thai, dance sports, futsal, karatedo, lawn tennis, pencak silat, scrabble, sepak takraw, softball/baseball, table tennis, taekwondo, tough rugby, track and field, indoor volleyball, weightlifting, wushu and gymnastics.

The clinic will run until May 9 and will be followed with a culminating activity at the Cebu City Sports Center on May 10.

The trainers for the month-long clinic are Cebu City volunteer coaches and athletes who have competed in various regional and national sporting meets.

The venues in the north district are City Central School, Hipodromo Elementary School, Lahug Elementary School, Mabolo Elementary School, Tejero Elementary School, Zapatera Elementary School, Barrio Luz Elementary School and Talamban Elementary School.

The areas for the south district are Don Vicente Rama Memorial Elementary School, Pardo Elementary School, Mambaling Elementary School, Labangon Elementary School, Punta Princesa Elementary School, Guadalupe Elementary School, Inayawan Elementary School, San Nicolas Elementary School, Cebu City Sports Institute, Oppra Elementary School and Tisa Elementary School.
