Tourism volunteer becomes queen

SENIOR High Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics student Mecca Ella Barrios of Barangay Poblacion 2 was crowned the Sinigayan Queen 2019 at the Sagay City Public Plaza on March 16.

Barrios, who is a Sagay Young Tourism Volunteer (SYTV), bested eight other girls representing the different barangays of Sagay, after she shared her willingness to pursue her advocacy on tourism as the city’s ambassador.

The 18-year-old queen surpassed the interview and final question-and-answer portion and brought home eight special awards.

Along with Barrios, Aliza Mae Bautista of Barangy Vito was declared first princess, while Satrianne Batangas of Barangay Poblacion 1 was the second princess.

Nathalie Alcober of Barangay Rizal and Katherine Angel Secretarias of Barangay Paraiso locked the final five beauties of the almost two-hour pageant.

The final question came from Mayor Alfredo Marañon III, where he asked the finalists which among the City Government’s priority programs will they choose as advocacy, and how would they implement it to make Sagay a better place.

Barrios chose environment as her advocacy and shared her background as SYTV, saying she has the experience to promote sustainable tourism.

Barrios brought home P25,000 cash prize, while Bautista and Batangas received P20,000 and P15,000, respectively. All three of them also got a bouquet, trophy and products from sponsors.

Alcober and Secretarias also received P3,000, while other contestants received P2,000 as consolation prize.

The other contestants were Mia France Franco of Barangay Paraiso, Jairah Temblor of Barangay Bulanon, April Rose Babiera of Barangay Maquiling and Famela Labesores of Barangay Andres Bonifacio.

The new Sinigayan Queen also garnered the most number of special awards including Miss Munsterific, Miss Camp Roma Garden Beach, Miss Dahling’s Diva, Miss Sagay Travel Land, Miss Brother AB Home Builder Inc., Miss Advocacy, Miss Negrense Swimwear and Best in Festival Costume.

Bautista received the Miss Lopues, Miss Fall’s Green, Best in Gown Designer and Best in Evening Gown, while Secretaria was Miss The Generics Pharmacy, Miss Photogenic, Best in Swimsuit, Best in Production Number.

Alcober received special awards like Miss Fairy Skin, Best Festival Costume Designer and Best in Talent; while Babiera was the Miss Amelia House of Gowns; Labesores was Miss Friendship and Batangas was People’s Choice.

The event was organized Sagay Sigay Jaycees in partnership with the City Government of Sagay. (PR)
