IT WAS a family reunion for eagles who had shared a nest at the Ateneo de Manila University’s Cervini and Eliazo residence halls.

Last Feb. 22-25, some 70 dormers from Batches 1982 to 1989 converged at the Henann Resort in Bohol from all over the world to celebrate “CE Bohol 2019.”

No, the Edsa Revolution that rocked these days in 1986 was not on their minds. But the spirit of Edsa was there. There was a common cause. There were tributes. There was singing, dancing and a priest.

There were anthems—to the halcyon days of the ‘80s, the dance floor at the nearby Be Grand Resort the stage for Mark Ortiz and Gina Luna-Bermudo’s rule over the ‘80s fashion red carpet and Jimmy Te and Cherry Ann Lim’s reign as Disco King and Queen.

On a second night at Be Grand, reverberating with songs pregnant with hugot lines on loves of another time, Pecky Casuela and Rachel Gazmen-Reyes emerged CE Idols 2019 (i.e., karaoke king and queen).

When the sun came up—whether it was gingerly taking snaps of Corella’s fragile tarsiers, cruising on the Loboc River, speeding through Bilar’s mahogany forest and past Baclayon’s storied church, swimming with Balicasag’s turtles or conquering Carmen’s Chocolate Hills—time just fell away. The bonds of soul siblings, forged in that shared house on a hill, had endured.

Fr. Rene Tacastacas, SJ, capped the gathering with a mass that celebrated those bonds, knowing well how they were formed as a Batch 1986 member and Cervini resident himself.

Planted without inhibitions, may those friendships thrive like the glorious ube of Bohol.

Thank you, CE Bohol organizers Pete Militante, Madz Palma, Angelie Yulo-Millan, Sandy Vega-Rimando, Jourdan Polotan, Alice Tio-Liu, Elizabeth Tiu-Mendoza, Hedy Bascon-Sarrosa, Jet Hofer and Aissa Lao-Mercader! (CTL)
