11 rescued after boat capsizes in Olango Island

(UPDATED) -- The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-7 confirmed to SunStar Cebu that the 11 (not 12 as earlier reported) passengers and crew of a fishing banca that capsized in the waters of Olango Island were rescued Sunday, March 24.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Michael John Encina, spokesperson of the Coast Guard District Central Visayas, said the crew were safely brought to safety by another fishing vessel after it was battered by huge waves in Barangay Caubian, Olango Island at 2 p.m.

The PCG-7 said they received the alarm at 4:55 p.m.

The boat, which carried 12 passengers, embarked from Datag, Liloan.

The passsenger were on their way to Banacon Island in Bohol to harvest prawn in a shrimp farm.

The PCG-7 deployed a ship with a medical personnel onboard. As of now, they are determining the identities of those rescued. (JOB)
