Barangay councilor drowns during search and rescue training

A BARANGAY councilor undergoing water search and rescue (WASAR) training drowned in a beach in Bagac, Bataan, over the weekend.

Police identified the victim as Billy Enriquez, 52, councilor of Barangay Calaguiman East in Samal, Bataan.

The victim was among the 120 village officials from Samal who participated in the last day of training at a beach in Bagac.

The WASAR participants started swimming about a mile from the shore.

Reports have it that the depth of the water in Bagac where they swam was 50 feet and about 1.5 kilometers from the shore.

The victim was rushed to the hospital in Bagac but was declared dead on arrival by physicians.
