Inasal Festival moved to last weekend of May

THE Bacolod City Council amended City Ordinance No. 482, or the Bacolod Inasal Festival, to reflect the change in the schedule of the event.

The Inasal Festival will still be in May. But with the new amendment, the event will now be held every fourth weekend of May from the original date of first weekend.

Councilor Cindy Rojas, co-author of the ordinance, said they amended the ordinance because the first weekend of May is just a week before Election Day this year.

“We decided to change the date of the celebration of the festival from every first weekend of May to every fourth weekend of May to avoid conflict of the activity,” she said.

She added that they are now finalizing their preparations for the festival.

Last year, the first festival was held in the first week of May on Araneta St. where about 300 meters of grill were roasting chicken.

The celebration was officially opened by Ambassador of Russia to the Philippines Igor Khovaev.

The City Government provided about 3,000 pieces of chicken meat, which were grilled by chicken vendors in Bacolod, some of them from the Manokan Country.

This year, the City will implement some changes and improvements of the celebration.

Rojas said they will still tap the participation of the chicken inasal vendors in Bacolod.

In 2009, the City Government attempted to break the world record of the longest barbecue grill.

Aside from Inasal Festival, Bacolod celebrates the MassKara Festival, Bacolaodiat Festival and Diwali Festival. (MAP)
