THE Baguio Water District (BWD) assured the continuous supply of water for the City of Baguio in anticipation of the summer season.
In the weekly Talakayan sa Environment Code, BWD construction and maintenance division head Engineer Noriel Calpito said the water utility has enough water supply based on the ongoing programs implemented by the water district.
“Our daily demand for Baguio City based on our computation reaches 65,000 cubic meters per day, while our production is at 58,000 cubic meters per day. We have a deficit of around 7,000 cubic meters per day which is why the Baguio Water District has programmed an increase in its capacity starting 2016 with drilling operations in the different areas of the city,” Calpito said.
At present, the ongoing drilling operations at the military cut-off area has been activated to give additional supply to nearby areas.
“In the past, the Santo Tomas rain catch basin previously had the capacity to store water at 600,000 cubic meters but after it’s concreting under the rehabilitation work, it can now store 700,000 cubic meters of water,” Calpito stated.
The South Drive and Tam-awan area deep well drilling is foreseen by the BWD to give additional water supply and is expected to be activated by April this year.
“We now have an ongoing rain catch basin project at the Busol watershed area which will have the capacity to store 50,000 cubic meters of water, a third proposal is now being studied at the Camp 8 area,” Calpito explained.
The BWD also constructed a diversion pipeline which augments the supply of water for its Camp 8 tanks which supplies water for the Hillside, Gabriela Silang and Military Cut-off area.
