Filipino 'Bill Gates' in the CdeO for USTP Innovation Summit

THE Philippines' top computer innovator who is dubbed as the “Bill Gates of the Philippines” will be in Cagayan de Oro City to grace a local Innovation Summit on March 28 to 29.

Diosdado “Dado” Banatao, who is famous for developing the first single chip, 16-bit microprocessor-based calculator, first Windows graphics accelerator chip for personal computers, among others, will come to Cagayan de Oro City to speak at the Innovation Summit hosted by University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines- Cagayan de Oro.

This year’s Innovation Summit features speech and fireside chat with Banatao – a Filipino inventor, technology innovator and venture capitalist in Silicon Valley.

In his speech, Banatao will give credence to creating an innovative mindset and innovation ecosystem.

Other invited plenary speakers include Mylah Faye Aurora B. Casiño, Regional Director of National Economic Development Authority- Northern Mindanao; Lourdes Yaptinchay, Director of Bureau of Trade and Industrial Policy Research, Department of Trade and Industry; Michelle Regulacio, Stride Consultant; Lim Seng Tat, Director, Altair Engineering SON. BHD.; Lorin Symington, Chief Builder and Head of Prototyping, Solar Fire Concentration, Ltd.

As such, each participant will benefit from a wide range of insights, strategies and new approaches on how best they can implement strategies and potential solutions to certain issues and concerns.

The two-day event will be held at SM Cagayan de Oro Downtown Premier. The Summit centers around the theme, “#USTPinnovation: The Game Changer for Sustainable Northern Mindanao.”

This year’s Innovation Summit is primarily intended to hear insights from key players in the innovation ecosystem and enable participants to widen their perspectives of the regional development plan, opportunities for innovation ecosystem, roadmap of technology business incubation in the Philippines, establishment of regional inclusive innovation center, technology of solar thermal in agri-food application, investment priorities in Northern Mindanao, and creating an innovative mindset and ecosystem.

Also, researching academics and students from various institutions, entrepreneurs, investors, industry senior executives, business development and other technical service providers all over Northern Mindanao are expected to attend.

The summit allows faculty, students, and startup talents particularly from the USTP-Cagayan de Oro Digital Incubation Hub to showcase their research and extension service outputs as well as products and services.

Three parallel sessions will be held to accommodate three sectors: Power and Energy, Information and Communication Technology, and Food Innovation.

During the pitching completion, some local startup talents will pitch their technological and innovative ideas through research innovations, software development, multimedia creations and computer graphics during the parallel sessions.

Another highlight of the event is the signing of Memorandum of Agreement between USTP and potential industry partners. (PR)
