Security guard inspires Aklan OFWs to help one another

KALIBO, Aklan -- A security guard has been inspiring overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to help each other and support those who need help.

Junah Francisco, an OFW, said that several people have joined the chat group "Tontong Malipayong Celebrities" (TMC) because of one of their founders, the security guard Jonnald "Kulas" Alejandro.

Alejandro previously worked as a security guard of the Aklan State University in Banga, Aklan. He is now working as a guard of a private company in Cavite.

"The vision of Alejandro is to help one another even through small things. If one were able to help, we hope that this would multiply and everyone, someday will also become helpful," said Francisco.

Tontong Malipayon means naughty and happy.

Connie Tresvalles, an OFW based in the Middle East, said the TMC group now has a thousand members. Some 300 of them were considered active.

"We contributed part of our hard-earned money abroad to hold several feeding program for kids. In July, we are also planning to give school supplies to some children," Tresvalles said in an interview Wednesday, March 27.

The TMC conducted Monday, March 25, a feeding program at the Navitas Elementary School in Numancia, Aklan and 167 students have benefited from it.

"We welcome everyone who wish to help us as long as they are following our goals, which is helping one another, especially those who are in need," Tresvalles added.

She also said that as an OFW, they also had experienced hardships, thus they wanted to help others to also minimize the suffering of those who are in need. (SunStar Philippines)
