PUREFOODS led from start to finish to beat San Miguel Beer, 87-78, in Game 6 of the PBA KFC Cup semifinal series at the Cuneta Astrodome last night.

Purefoods won the series, 4-2, and will next face the Alaska Aces, who swept their semifinal series against Ginebra San Miguel.

Cebuano Roger Yap was named the best player of the game for the third straight time after finishing with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

After a 24-21 lead in the first quarter, Purefoods upped the tempo in the second to lead 48-28 before Arwind Santos made it 48-30 at the half.

San Miguel applied a full-court press in the third quarter and it managed to work as Purefoods turned the ball over in the first five possessions and was held without a field goal for five minutes before narrowing the gap to 64-56 going into the fourth quarter.

San Miguel managed to cut the lead to six in the fourth but couldn’t make the final push and was still trailing by 13, 82-69, with only less than two minutes left.
