BJMP top officials undergo surprise drug test

THE Bureau of Jail Management and Penology's (BJMP) newly appointed officer-in-charge, Chief Superintendent Allan Iral, ordered Thursday, March 28, a surprise drug test for all top officials of the agency.

On his first day in office, Iral ordered the 23 key officers of the BJMP headquarters, 18 regional directors, and 20 other staff members to undergo drug testing, said BJMP spokesperson Chief Inspector Xavier Solda.

Iral replaced Director Deogracias Tapayan, who reached a mandatory retirement of 56. The turnover was done last March 27.

Iral said he will continue the implementation of the agency's flagship programs and support the government’s war on illegal drugs, crime, corruption and violent extremism.

“Sabi ng ating mga nakakataas na opisyal sa DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government) na suportahan natin ang programa ng ating Presidente (Rodrigo Duterte). So ang first order of the day ko ay dapat lahat kami magpapa-drug test,” Iral said.

(Our top DILG officials said we should support President Rodrigo Duterte's programs. So my first order of the day is for everybody to undergo a drug test.)

“Hindi tayo magsisimula sa baba. Magsisimula tayo sa taas, para maipakita namin sa mga kasamahan namin sa field na kami bago kami magpa-implement, kailangan malinis muna yung mga nag-i-inplement,” he added.

(We will not start from the bottom, but from the top officials, so we can show to our colleagues in the field that we are clean.)

Iral said he will order the immediate dismissal of those who will test positive for illegal drug use.

He also ordered the regional directors to conduct a surprise drug test on their men. (SunStar Philippines)
