Mendoza: Experience unconditional love with ‘Dumbo’

SOME decades ago, we used to watch the animated TV series as well as the animated film of the ever popular flying elephant from Walt Disney. This year, the American movie outfit is finally bringing it back through the live-action project “Dumbo.”

Last Sunday, March 24, the Davao media, along with a number of famous personalities here, had the chance to watch it in advance. SM Lanang Premier gathered them and their families to experience the heartwarming story of the young elephant and the people who loved him dearly.

The mall’s Cinema 6 was filled with those who would like to see how the new film differs from the animated version. Basically, nothing has changed, except that the 2019 project features Hollywood stars who gave life to the characters that once made us cry during our childhood days.

Live-action film “Dumbo” is based on Harold Pearl and Helen Aberson’s novel, while drawing inspiration from the 1941 animated film of the same title. It is one of the three major projects which Disney is highlighting this year. It is the first one to be dropped. The other two are “The Lion King” and Aladdin.”

The team

Tim Burton is at the helm of “Dumbo.” He directed the film in such a way that its original story and feel have been retained. In the meantime, Ehren Kruger wrote its screenplay.

To make the story and each character come to life, we have to give it to strong lineup of actors and actresses. They include the following:

Colin Farrell is Holt Farrier, a war veteran who takes care of Dumbo at the Medici circus.

Eva Green is Colette Marchant, a French trapeze artist. Dani Devito is Max Medici, the owner of the struggling circus. Michael Keaton is V.A. Vandevere, the film’s bad guy. Nico Parker is Milly, while Finley Hobbins is Joe. Holt’s children are the ones who discover that Dumbo can fly.

With it being successful in bringing back childhood memories, the upcoming Disney films surely have big shoes to fill.

Watch “Dumbo” and the magic it brings at SM Cinema! The movie officially opens on Wednesday, March 27.
