HARVEY Eslawa scored 29 points and Shakey’s-Cobra Smart Plus finally broke the cloak of invincibility of undefeated Fyr Fyter – Heineken with a 104-93 reversal to force a winner-takes-all match in Class A of the Fil-Sino Asia Brewery Cup at BTTHS Po Hang Gym tonight.
Fyr Fyter swept the elimination and semifinals rounds and was armed with a twice-to-beat advantage, but it did not deter Shakey’s to live for another day taking the first quarter, 32-20, as Jerome Napao and Harvey Eslawa combined for 19 points.
Eslawa partnered with Allen Delagente in the second quarter to keep the double digit lead, 57-43, while Mark Anthony De La Cruz continued to carry the scoring load for the Fyr Fyter, assisted by Coleen Testa.
Fyr Fyter hit 32 markers to take the lead at 75-72 at the end of third quarter behind Jhan Nermal, Testa and De La Cruz, but could not sustain its juggernaut as Eslawa and Delagente cut short the uprising.
Napao finished with 26 points; Delagente, 18; Monic Soliva, 8; Cedrick Debide, 7; and Jayson Balabag, 6.
Nermal paced Fyr Fyter with 22; De La Cruz, 21; Testa, 20; Randy Colonia, 14; Nikee Montalvo, 6, and Robby Jalandoon, 5.
Chosen to the Mythical 5 were Eslawa, Nermal, Soliva, Testa and Joemarie Bayhon of J Squared.
