THE Department of Labor and Employment (Dole)-Davao assured that the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) will create more jobs and employment than workforce displacement in Davao Region.

Dole-Davao employment focal person Marlito Ayala said because of the threats of displacement, they are now urging workers to develop multiple skills to go along the shift.

The term 4IR is used to describe another major industrial era with the fusion of technologies that is blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and biological spheres, collectively referred to as cyber-physical systems.

Ayala said they have been intensifying information dissemination to schools to educate the students, who will be the future workforce of the country, about unroutinary tasks that will never be replaced by technology such as jobs that require decision-making skills.

"We are into [4IR] already. Disadvantage nito is marami talagang madi-displace sa mga companies that will go into automation," Ayala said.

"On the other side, marami din ma-create na mga bagong jobs out of the advent of the 4IR. At dahil sa pag-sprout ng mga bagong jobs na yan, marami nang option ang labor force," he added.

Ayala said it is important to embed on the minds of the younger generation that the world is changing and it is very important to develop other skills so as to cope.

He said Dole and other concerned agencies have been doing their part to train and develop more skills that will be needed even with the advent of technology.

"We inform the students about the reality of what technology brings in the workforce sector. There will be jobs that may not be needed anymore in the next five years so we inform them about the jobs that will complement the existing technology," Ayala said in vernacular.
