Bautista: Number 2

I WAS always number two to Dad. I'm his Junior. My son, the third.

This time, it will be number two for me to take on Congress. The first didn't work out as planned. The computer (PCOS) was introduced then to run the elections. Never had I encountered such an election. I was confident with the way our teachers would man the elections.

The teachers were also my colleagues. They knew where I was coming from. I started my public service in the 90's as a teacher. I held my head proud for the teaching profession. Upon winning I took on the Committee of Education. I looked at teachers’ welfare.

Even until I became the City Mayor, I always made sure that our teachers were well taken care of. I shared what could be from the local coffers to the teachers at that time. No Juan could tell me not to. I made sure that something had to be shared to them even if they were nationally paid.

This is number 2 for me coming back for an election. Something I turned my back to. Today I have decided to offer myself back to serve our community. I realize that Baguio is a Center for Education and everything should revolve around it. Our main business in the city is education and let us bring it back.

This is also my number 2 lease in life as I returned to private life and continue to work for the betterment of our countrymen. I still serve the community with the Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation where I serve as the number 2 to the Chairman, now as President. I never left from serving our countrymen.

I always looked up to my dad and namesake. Number 2 I will always be to a good man. Never looking back at pushing for education around the country. Up until today even at 78 years old he continues to push for education.

I was number 2 Councilor in the 2001 elections. Soon after in 2004, I ran for number 2 to the Mayor and won as the City Vice Mayor. Being number 2 was most fortunate and a blessing as I was after some time given the task to become the Acting Mayor, prelude to becoming the youngest Mayor of Baguio and the first Baguio born.

I was number 2 to Judge Braulio Yaranon, the 2 of us fought for our city. We were victorious in our quest to do what was right. Together we tried to correct what was wrong. We tried.

It was in 2007 when I ran as Mayor and again Peter Rey Bautista was number 2 in the ballot, against seven others. I went against three mayors then. I was the only vice mayor against them, just the number 2. It worked well for me.

Today I am back. I will try to continue on and pray for what is best for our city. I will offer myself this time to do what I can. 9 years is not long. I continued to serve, although in a different manner. I continued to work for making more Filipinos live better. I, through the foundation continued to help the teachers, the police, the farmers, the miners, the military in improving their lives. I can do it in Baguio again.

I was optioned too as number 2 nominee for a Party-list, I would have taken the offer except it was not the kind of sector that I would have prayed to serve. I will still find a way someday. A number 2 option.

While the formal campaign has started I am also elated to know that Peter Rey Bautista is NUMBER 2 once more in the ballot. I am praying for this number 2 chance to serve as Representative of the Lone District of Baguio.

I appeal to your kind hearts to allow me this second chance, a number 2 to serve the city. There is still a chance to do what is right for this city that we love. I was born here and will not just sit down and see it go down. There is still that second coming for this beautiful city. If all have failed, there's a number 2 in Peter Rey Bautista.

For this second coming, for congressman... NUMBER 2 PETER REY BAUTISTA!
