Mind the rules on campaign materials: comelec to candidates

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) Cebu City will send notices to candidates whose campaign materials are found in restricted areas or do not prescribe to the rule on campaign materials.

Marchel Sarno, Cebu City south district acting election officer, said they will conduct an ocular inspection for this purpose.

He said posters should not be bigger than 12 feet by 16 feet.

In the 34 barangays in the south district, candidates can place their posters near barangay halls, sports complexes, public markets, stages and basketball courts.

This can also be done in the 46 barangays in the north district.

Sarno said campaign materials can also be posted in private areas with the owner’s permission.

Comelec prohibits the placing of campaign materials on trees, light posts, electrical wires, schools, waiting sheds, sidewalks, traffic signs, bridges, barangay halls, health centers, public shrines, public transport terminals, airports, seaports, government patrol cars, ambulances, trains and their stations, overpasses, underpasses and center islands.

Sarno said a letter will be sent to the candidates if Comelec finds their posters in prohibited areas.

The party or candidate will have three days to remove the election materials. If they refuse, they will face a case. The most severe penalty is the candidate’s disqualification, or he will not be allowed to run and vote in the next elections. (from PAC of Superbalita Cebu/KAL)
