Police nab ‘budol’ suspects

AUTHORITIES arrested two men, believed to be involved in a swindling activity known as “budol-budol,” have been arrested in Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City, on Thursday, March 28.

Members of the Crime Against Persons and Property Desk (CAPPD) nabbed Eric Maranggit, resident of Mohon, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, and his companion Jerome Amarille of Taguanao, this city.

The suspects were caught carrying boxes containing fake chemicals used for gold processing and counterfeited peso bills amounting to P700,000 in an entrapment operation.

Suspects were arrested after they supposedly sold a box of Millinium Ruthenium Powder, a chemical compound used for processing gold, but turned out to be containing salt and mongo seeds.

Two more boxes with the same content were later seized. Each box was sold at P2,000.

Operatives also confiscated seven bundles of “Budol” or fake money worth P700,000, a hand grenade and and a unit of caliber 38 revolver. Police seized another grenade and caliber 38 revolver from Amarille.

The suspects’ Toyota Innova vehicle was also recovered.

Investigation disclosed that suspects were also responsible on the series of “Budol” or swindling incidents in the city.

CAPPD chief Police Captain Mario Mantala said the suspects were now detained and will face criminal charges.
