4 barangays to get P5M each from Cebu City Hall

THE Cebu City Council has approved the P20-million financial assistance to four barangays to fund their respective programs and projects.

But they will have to wait until the ban on the release of public funds is lifted after the campaign period.

The City Council approved last Tuesday, March 26, the resolutions granting P5 million each to Barangays Labangon, Buot, Paril and Sawang Calero.

The funds were charged to the aid to the barangay allocation under this year’s annual budget.

Barangay Labangon will use the money to build a P4-million multi-purpose building and to install P1 million worth of security cameras.

Barangay Buot wants to purchase a mini coaster worth P4.2 million; monobloc chairs, tables and tents worth P500,000; and a sound system worth P300,000.

Barangay Paril intends to spend the P5 million to acquire a lot and build a chapel, improve the barangay cemetery, acquire a lot and build a market, buy a van worth P800,000 and security cameras worth P700,000 and construct a drainage system worth P200,000.

Barangay Sawang Calero is proposing to purchase a garbage truck worth P3.5 million and install and repair its security cameras worth P1.5 million.

Ex-officio Councilor Franklin Ong, who is also the president of the Association of Barangay Councils, sponsored the four separate resolutions authorizing Mayor Tomas Osmeña to sign the memorandum of agreement with the barangays.

In an interview, Ong said the four are the first barangays that were able to process and submit their proposals.

“But no release yet because it’s covered under the election ban. We will still continue the processing of other barangays. After the election ban, we will continue the process and will release,” he said. / RVC
