THE Philippine National Police (PNP) welcomed on Sunday, March 31 the investigation launched by the European Union (EU) on the allegations that funding being provided to a local non-profit organization is being diverted to the communist rebels in the Philippines.
“Well ito ay isang positibong development at kung talagang maputol ang lahat ng mga linya ng financial assistance dito sa communist terrorists ay malaki talaga ang matutulong nito sa pagkakaroon natin ng lasting peace dito sa ating bansa at sinusunulong na nga natin maging ang pamahalaan,” PNP spokesperson Colonel Bernard Banac said.
Earlier, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) deputy chief of staff for operations Brigadier General Antonio Parlade said he submitted several subversive documents, videos and other evidences to the EU to prove that Karapatan, IBON Foundation, Rural Missionaries of the Philippines and other activist groups which receives funding from the EU has links to the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) New People’s Army (NPA) that is considered as a terrorist group.
In a statement on Saturday, March 31, the EU said they will conduct investigation, including financial audit.
“Should the allegations be established, the EU immediately would take full legal action,” he said.
However, it said that based on initial audit, the allegations of the military has not yet been verified.
AFP spokesperson Brigadier-General Edgard Arevalo believed the government will succeed in proving the case against the “front organizations” of the CPP-NPA chaired by Jose Mari Sison. (SunStar Philippines)
