Earth Hour saves 3.6 mw in parts of Metro Cebu

THE Visayas regions saved the most electricity during Earth Hour on Saturday night, March 31.

According to the data provided by the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP), the Visayas recorded up to 89.37 megawatts load drop within an hour.

Luzon and Mindanao recorded a load drop of 88 and 17.97 megawatts, respectively.

In total, the NGCP recorded a load drop of 195.34 megawatts throughout the country during Earth Hour, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.

In Cebu, the Visayan Electric Company (Veco) reported there was a drop of 3.6 megawatts in electricity demand in its franchise area. The demand drop in 2018 was 2.6 megawatts.

Veco is the second largest electric utility in the country. It operates in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay and Naga.

Veco also supplies electricity in the municipalities of Liloan, Consolacion, Minglanillla and San Fernando. (FROM HBL OF SUPERBALITA CEBU / KAL)
