EASTERN Visayas Police Director Dionardo Carlos has urged local government units to do their share in attaining 100 percent attack-resilient two-story standard type building for police stations in the region.

"It really served its purpose... I call on the remaining 22 local government units to donate lots as their share in the construction of these buildings," Carlos said.

He, however, did not disclose the names of the 22 LGUs.

The police director referred to the police station with roof deck as the new design for Philippine National Police (PNP) around the country.

The region has a total of 146 police stations and eight city police and provincial offices.

“Of the 146, 102 police stations are already occupying the new standard type building, 32 others are still under construction, and 22 remaining units are still using the old standard type building or without the standard type PNP building,” Carlos said.

The building costs about P4.8 million and has a floor area of more or less 288 square meters with a dimension of 12m x 8m.

The best feature of this building is its roof deck, where police

personnel can observe their immediate vicinity from above, said the police director.

During the March 28 attack at the Victoria Municipal Police Station in Northern Samar, police also relied on the rooftop of their station to defend themselves from the attack of the New People’s Army. (SunStar Philippines)
