THE Zonta Club of Cebu 1 had its last stretch of the celebration of International Women’s Month with “One-Stop Service,” a cohesive project on the advocacy shedding light on Violence Against Women. Held at its adopted Barangay Kamagayan in Cebu City last March 24, the services included consultations on medical and wellness, and legal and job opportunities (hiring on the spot). These aimed to help women and their families maintain sound health, making them effective mothers and workers. The husbands were also involved, reminding them to respect and protect women and children. Some 300 Zontians, students and volunteers participated. Families received raffle prizes of sacks of rice, cash and food.

The partners: Peso (Public Employment Service Office) of the Cebu Province for the job fair; the University of San Jose-Recoletos’ Masscom students and technical crew; GMA-7 TV for coverage, entertainment and raffle prizes; the doctors from Chong Hua Hospital; and lawyers from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines - Cebu Chapter for the legal aid. Barangay Kamagayan provided the venue, facilities and participation of beneficiaries; Speechcom and SunStar Cebu for added project stories. Project chairperson was Zontian Melita Go. Coordinators were doctor Nestor Ramirez of USJ-R Masscom and the Kamagayan barangay council.

The “One-Stop Service” will be a continuing project of the Zonta Club of Cebu 1 with added adopted barangays.
