De Leon: Celebrities, netizens jump in ‘Dalagang Pilipina challenge’

THESE past couple of days, it’s almost impossible not to come across memes and videos related to the “Dalagang Pilipina challenge” when scrolling through your social media feeds. It has indeed taken over our online notifications and lived long before we realized it.

This challenge was started by Instagram user @mimiyuuh. Yes, the same guy who went viral because of his interpretative dance version of This Band’s “Kahit Ayaw Mo Na.”

So the challenge is set to local rap group ‘Allmo$t’s’ song ‘Dalaga’---which has been clearly growing in popularity as the lyric video itself and a live performance of the song has around 40 million views on YouTube alone.

Challenge-takers should do their own a la-Yaya Dub-Kalyeserye Lola-facial expressions or other “pa-cute awra” poses.

Consequently, the country’s mainstream celebrities and even ordinary netizens have caught wind of the trend and decided to make several versions for the sake of laughs.

More so, it’s also grown to a trend not limited to women as several male vloggers and kids all have their own takes on it.

But although a “Dalagang Pilipina” is often described as timid, sophisticated, etc. - this one makes funny-slash-cute faces in front of the camera equally part ironic and amusing.
