THE City Government of Angeles under the leadership of Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan in close coordination with the Public Service Employment Service (Peso) and the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) welcomed a total of 174 indigent students from various barangays here for this year’s summer job program.

According to Peso manager Maria Rosa Teodora Basilio, the activity is in line with the city’s Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) which aims to extend employment opportunities to indigent and deserving students who possess laudable academic feat.

All students will be assigned to the different local government offices that are related to their chosen field of expertise when they finally get to college. The students will be properly compensated and will each receive P477.73 per day for 20.

For his part, Pamintuan guaranteed that the city will sustain its SPES program as it is seen as a viable means to help younger generations become beneficial and dynamic individuals of the community while earning for themselves and their families.

“This would also help them acquire professional growth and discipline, experience actual work as they happen providing the students firsthand information on how things are effectively and efficiently done in the different offices of the government,” he added.

Aira Joy Sicangco, 18, of Barangay Pandan is overwhelmed and thankful of the opportunities being provided by the city government. She also expressed her excitement saying,” I will give my very best to the office that I will be assigned to and will make sure that I will be an asset and even surpass their expectations from all of us”.

SPES is a yearly summer program that encourages students to make their vacation rewarding, valuable and worthwhile.

The SPES is a program created under Republic Act 7323, series of 1999, as amended by Republic Act 9547 which seeks to boost employment amidst summer through incentives granted by the government. (PR)
