Dela Cruz hopes Talos road will be redesigned

DON Salvador Benedicto Mayor Marxlen Dela Cruz revealed Monday, April 1 that the town is taking measures to minimize road accidents in the locality.

Dela Cruz also issued precautions among drivers to minimize their speed and avoid overspeeding especially in Sitio Talos, Barangay Igmayaan-an, where an accident involving a Ceres Bus resulted in the death of four passengers.

“It has been identified as the most accident prone area within the whole Don Salvador Benedicto. If you want to die fast, you drive fast,” Dela Cruz reminded the drivers.

Dela Cruz said that part of the measures taken by the municipality is that he has sent a letter to the Department of Public Works and Highways’ first Highway Engineering District, through engineer Jaime Javellana, to re-design and reconstruct the road in Sitio Talos, which is almost a perfect curve.

The mayor said that he is also asking the Land Transportation Office to deputize traffic enforcers who will be hired by the Municipal Government, mainly to remind and monitor drivers against overspeeding and overloading.

“For the first time, we will have our traffic enforcers,” Dela Cruz said.

Traversing the mountainous DSB is the shortest route to and from San Carlos City and Negros Oriental.

Dela Cruz said that despite that the Municipal Government already spending for reflective road signs, they are requesting more support like street lights and barriers from the LTO and DPWH to minimize road accidents. (TDE)
