BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia of Grupo Progreso (GP) on Monday, April 1, ordered supporters to remove their campaign posters, which are considered illegal by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

“I’ve told people who are helping us in our campaign to remove all our campaign posters, which are considered illegal by the Comelec. We should follow the law,” Leonardia said.

He said the GP’s supporters should remove the illegal posters because it’s important to follow the law.

“As far as possible, we will follow the Comelec poster rules,” he said.

On March 29, Comelec, led by acting Bacolod election registrar Ann Janette Lamban, removed hundreds of illegal campaign posters of local candidates in various areas in Bacolod.

These illegal campaign posters were posted outside the identified common posters areas.

Lamban earlier said most of the violators were candidates running for councilors, whose tarpaulins were oversized and posted in electrical posts.

Comelec was operating with the assistance of Department of Public Works and Highways and the City Engineer’s Office.

Aside from the local candidates, Comelec also removed the illegal campaign posters of the national candidates.

Comelec earlier identified at least 92 common poster areas in 61 barangays in the city for the May 13 elections.

Most of the identified common poster areas are vacant lots on the highway, covered court, gymnasium and areas near the barangay hall.

Comelec will continue their operation on April 5. (MAP)
