THE Cebu City Council wants to know the current status of the city's available water supplyfollowing the effects brought by the weak El Niño.
While this developed, the City Council also urged all departments and offices in City Hall, the barangays and the households to adapt water conservation methods.
In an approved resolution sponsored by Councilor Raymond Alvin Garcia, the legislative body is set to hold an executive session on the status of water supply and the demand on April 30.
“There is a need for the Sanggunian to be appraised of the current water supply situation in the city in order to enact measures to counteract the effects of El Niño phenomenon,” read portion of the resolution of Garcia.
The representatives of Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD), Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and the barangays are invited to appear before the Council during the executive session.
As of March 24, City Agriculture Department chief Apple Tribunalo said the weak El Niño has destroyed P4.6 million of agricultural products.
A total of 133 farmers in the mountain barangays have been affected by the dry spell.
Tribunalo said vegetables, sweet corn and flowers were affected by the lack of water supply.
In another approved resolution, Councilor Joel Garganera said there is a need to conserve water as MCWD reported that water supply from Buhisan Dam drastically decreased.
Earlier, MCWD said some 6,000 households in several barangays in Cebu City have been affected to the shortage of water supply since the Buhisan Dam had dried up and could no longer supply water.
