Bomb threat halts SSS operations

BUSINESS operations of the Social Security System (SSS) on Lacson St. in Bacolod City were temporarily suspended after receiving a bomb threat from an unidentified person Tuesday morning, April 2.

Police Captain Leo Estopa, head of Police Station 2, said an SSS employee received a text message from an unknown sender informing her that a bomb was inside the building and it may explode anytime.

Estopa said they received a call for assistance at 6:17 a.m. and immediately responded, along with the Special Weapons and Tactics to check the area.

No bomb was found after clearing the area.

But police were called again at 9:30 a.m. by an office staff to conduct paneling and clearing to thoroughly check the building and area per advise of the national office.

They were assisted by the Philippine Coast Guard and Swat during the paneling.

The clearing was conducted shortly as the clients and the employees of the office cooperated with the authorities, Estopa said.

Normal business operations then continued after the clearing was completed.

Estopa said they tried calling the number but nobody answered their call.

However, he said they will continue to probe who was behind the incident. (GYM)
