CITY Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) head Generose Tecson said the increase in Cathay Dragon’s flight frequency between Hong Kong and Davao City is an indication that Davao city is cementing its position as Mindanao's gateway.

Cathay Dragon, a Hong Kong-based regional airline operating the Davao-Hong Kong direct flight, announced that they will increase their frequency to six flights per week from the current four flights per week. This will be on April 4 to May 4 to cater to more travelers during the summer season.

“We are happy to take note of this because it only means that there are more passengers going in and out of the Davao and people are becoming aware of Davao as a destination and gateway to Mindanao,” Tecson said, adding that she urge other airlines to do the same to cater more travelers.

On Monday, April 1, 2019, Cathay Dragon local sales executive Camille Rosales said in an interview with SunStar Davao that the airline has been catering four flight schedules from Davao to Hong Kong and vice versa during Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday with 236-seater Airbus 320 and A321 jets. Increasing the frequency of their flights is their response to the strong demand of tourists in the coming season.

“For our load factor, we can really say that it has been doing well that is why this coming summer season we are adding two more flights. We really had more travelers or flyers,” she said.

“The one-month additional flight schedules are just to service the increasing demand from Davao to Hong Kong,” she added.

Rosales said the airline has a wide range of travelers such as tourists, overseas Filipino workers, and business travelers, among others since October 2018.

Year-on-year the number of travelers has been increasing that is why they occasionally add more flights than usual like they did in December 2018.
