A TOTAL of 13,736 erring motorists were apprehended since the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) launched its intensified campaign on road safety here last February.

DCPO spokesperson Police Captain Ma. Teresita Gaspan said based on the consolidated data of the Traffic Group, as of April 3, there have been 69 individuals who were arrested for violating Republic Act 10586 or Anti-Drunk Driving Act and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.

The apprehended individuals are currently facing charges.

She also said a total of 3,578 individuals were apprehended for violating Republic Act 10054, or the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2007 and were given citation tickets.

The City Government of Davao already issued warning against motorists who will not wear helmets that they could not avail of the government’s medical assistance or Lingap once they get into a road accident.

This developed after records showed that several individuals who figured in road accidents and asked help from the government were violators of RA 10054.

Meanwhile, for violators of RA 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, they recorded around 10,089 for various traffic violations.

DCPO director Police Colonel Alexander Tagum has previously warned all Police Station commanders that he will relieve them if they will not deliver the directive in eradicating the unsafe driving habits of motorists.
