Palace: Duterte to axe another government exec next week

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte is slated to fire another government official next week, Malacañang said on Thursday, April 4.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, in a radio interview, did not, however, cite any reasons for the impending dismissal of the still unnamed government official.

"Ia-announce niya next week. Binanggit niya rin 'yun kagabi during the meeting with some businessmen na he will be firing another official next week (He'll announce it next week. He mentioned it last night during the meeting with some businessmen that he will be firing another official next week)," Panelo said.

Panelo's statement came more than a week after the President earlier revealed that he will be firing "more" government officials.

Asked if only one public official will be sacked, the Palace official said: "Parang 'yun 'yung narinig ko sa kanya kagabi (That's what I've heard from him last night)."

Amid his relentless crackdown on corruption in government, Duterte threatened on March 26 to fire another set of government officials.

The President, however, did not give any hint about the identity of the public executives facing dismissal from service.

His pronouncement came after he told officials of state water regulator Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), and private water concessionaires Manila Water and Maynilad Water Service on March 19 to "shape up or ship out" for their failure to solve the water crisis in the country.

The fate of the MWSS, Manila Water, and Maynilad officials depends on their report about water shortage, which must be submitted to Duterte by April 15. (SunStar Philippines)
