Sports medicine seminar set in Baguio

DOCTOR Mario Imson is set to share breakthroughs in sports training, injury avoidance, and first aid of minor injuries in a one-day seminar dubbed “Sports Medicine vs Sports Science” on Saturday, April 6, at the University of the Cordilleras (UC) theater in Baguio City.

Imson heads the South East Asian Games sports medicine in the Philippines, and will spearhead the seminar for coaches, trainers, physical therapy instructors, and physical education instructors who want to further their knowledge in the field of sports science and sports medicine.

A practicing Orthopeadic surgeon with a subspecialty in sports medicine, Imson graduated from the University of the Philippines with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy and subsequently obtained his medical degree from the University of the East - Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Centre.

He is a fellow of the Philippine College of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Sports Medicine Association of the Philippines and a professor at the University of the Cordilleras. Imson is also the section head of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic of the Baguio Medical Centre.

Imson has worked as a sports physician of the University of the Philippines and in the professional basketball league in the Philippines.

He is responsible for the setting up of the sports injury clinics at the University of the Philippines and the University of Baguio.

Imson was the dean of the College of Physical Therapy of the De La Salle University and later the University of Baguio.

He is also one of the founding members of the Asian Council of Exercise and Sports Science (ACESS) and served as President of ACESS in 2009 to 2011 and has been a member of the Executive Board since 1999. He has given lectures in sports medicine in many local and international conferences and Baguio city is fortunate to have him share his knowledge on April 6.

The one day seminar will start at 2:30 p.m. at the UC Theater.
