Tuburan routs Balamban, 92-71

TUBURAN dropped a massive 27-12 onslaught in the payoff period to take down Balamban, 92-71, en route to winning the 3rd District crown of the Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament on Wednesday night, April 3 at the Tuburan Sports Complex.

Tuburan stepped on the gas pedal in the fourth quarter, outscoring Balamban to break away after a tightly contested three quarters that saw both share a deadlock at 41-all at the half.

Joyce Lee Oropiano scored 21 points, Romyr Kirt Gonzaga added 15, while Steven Yuson and Miguelito Jusay chipped in 14 each for Tuburan, which started to build the lead in the second half at 65-59.

Tuburan won the P100,000 cash purse for being the district champion, while runner-up Balamban received P50,000. Both teams though are moving to the Final 14.

Balamban’s Rickyboy Timosa finished with 16, Jushoa Gellacone had 14, Albert John Sacayan added 13 and Francis Jay Tapdasan scored 10 in a losing effort.

The overall defending champion Talisay Aquastars, meanwhile, asserted their mastery over the Minglanilla Archangels, 97-89, in the District 1 championship at the Talisay City Sports Complex.

Jay Deiparine exploded for 29 points, Clark Louis Ruedas handed 16 and Jhaylord Castro chipped in 13 for Talisay City.

Acer Rom Michael Go led the Archangels with 28 points, while teammate Ryzel Guillan Gilbuena handed 22.

On the other hand, Danao City and Sogod are set to battle in the 5th District championship after beating their separate opponents. Danao City beat Carmen, 96-81, while Sogod edged out San Francisco, 81-70.

Danao City will host Sogod on Friday, Medellin battles Tabuelan for the 4th District title, and Alegria takes on Dumanjug for the 7th District crown. (RSC)
