NegOcc to host 2021 Palarong Pambansa

THE Provincial Government of Negros Occidental won its bid to host the Palarong Pambansa in 2021.

This was disclosed Thursday, April 4, by the Palarong Pambansa Board and Department of Education (DepEd) Central Office.

Lawyer Revsee Escobedo, DepEd acting undersecretary and Palarong Pambansa secretary general, sent a letter to Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. stating that the Palaro Board conducted a Special Board Meeting on April 3 in Manila.

The letter stated that upon careful study and deliberations on the bids presented by the bidders, comprising other local government units (LGUs), and the inspection report presented by the technical inspection team, Negros Occidental was declared the winning LGU to host the 2021 Palaro, by a majority vote.

The Palaro Board is composed of members from the DepEd, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Negros Occidental signified its interest to host the said annual schools sports event in the country last year.

Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the team who defended its bid at the DepEd Central Office in Manila, together with DepEd-Western Visayas director Gemma Ledesma, NegOcc Schools Division Superintendent Portia Mallorca, Bacolod City Schools Division Superintendent Cynthia Demavivas, NegOcc Provincial Information Officer Karen Dinsay, Executive Assistant to the Vice Governor Jonathan Lobaton, Romeo Sison of DepEd - NegOcc., and Eden Arriola of DepEd - Bacolod.

The technical inspection team earlier visited the provinces to check on the sports facilities, schools and billeting centers, and verified its readiness to host the Palaro. (PR)
